Historical Review of Stereoscopic Fundus

axes), one can construct a curved surface on which any point would be focused or mapped to precisely corresponding points on the two re t i n a s . This surface is the horopter, often simplified as a curved line in the horizontal plane (Figure 3-2). For example, a point 4 degrees to the right of fixation on the horopter would be imaged on each retina precisely four degrees to the left of each fovea (point A in Figure 3-2). Any points lying in front of this surface would not fall on anatomically corre s p o n d i n g points but would be shifted temporally on each retina. Any points beyond the horopter would be shifted nasally, again to noncorresponding retinal points. The further from the horo p t e r, the greater the anatomical retinal disparity. The complex neural circuitry associated with vision is capable of synthesizing depth information from these disparate images, giving the sensation of stereopsis. Simultaneous stereoscopic fundus camera incorporating a single optical axis.
The method of stereoscopic fundus photography, where both photographs are taken simultaneously, yields the most consistent and reproducible record of depths in the fundus. However, all systems devised to date have had undesirable photographic aberrations. For the most part, this has resulted because the optical axis of each image is not the same as that of the objective lens. A single-axis syst...
متن کاملMethods and reproducibility of grading optimized digital color fundus photographs in the Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2 (AREDS2 Report Number 2).
PURPOSE To establish continuity with the grading procedures and outcomes from the historical data of the Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS), color photographic imaging and evaluation procedures for the assessment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) were modified for digital imaging in the AREDS2. The reproducibility of the grading of index AMD lesion components and for the AREDS severi...
متن کاملVertical ovalness of glaucomatous cupping.
Slit-lamp examination and stereoscopic fundus photography were found to be helpful in differentiating between physiological and glaucomatous cupping of the disc. Vertical ovalness of any cup in the disc should raise the suspicion of glaucoma, and the magnitude of the vertical cup: disc ratio is of particular significance.

Aim – To compare the results of optic disc analysis using optical coherence tomography, fundus photography and stereoscopic biomicroscopy. Materials & Methods – A comparative, observational case series and interobserver variability study in which 2 groups of patients were analysed by all the 3 methods. One group had primary open angle glaucoma patients and the other group were patients undergoi...
